Avalon Waterways has agreed a new partnership with an established general sales agency in Ireland to help drive bookings in the country.
Following a recent uptick in demand for river cruising, Avalon has signed a deal with ASM Ireland to start selling sailings via the Irish travel trade. Irish agents can now sell Avalon Waterways in Euros.
ASM already represents several suppliers including Ethiopian Airlines, Caribtours and ANA in the Irish market.
ASM Ireland managing director Alan Sparling said: “We have seen a continued increase in interest for river cruising in the Irish market over the last few years, so now is the perfect time for Avalon Waterways to partner with us, and at the same time for our agent partners to take advantage of the demand.”
Lesley Taylor, Avalon’s UK and Ireland managing director, confirmed the river line had not previously invested in the market.
“Our travel trade partners are extremely important to us,” she said. “In Ireland, we will be selling via travel agents only and are extremely happy to be working with ASM to provide them with everything they need to sell our river cruises and make that all important commission.”
Phil Shipman, UK and Ireland trade director for Avalon Waterways, added: “Having previously worked with agents in this market I know how important Irish travel agents are to their customers.”
He added that Sparling’s track record would ensure Avalon is “front and centre” with the travel trade.
“We are all excited to start showcasing our trusted and much-loved brand to both agents and their customers alike,” Shipman concluded.
It comes after Shipman called sales through the UK market "a mixed bag", highlighting how bookings were either for departures in the near future or more than 12 months ahead.
