The Expedition Cruise Network (ECN) has expanded its membership to 20 affiliates after adding two small-vessel expedition cruise operators.
US-based Atlas Ocean Voyages – which offers a raft of polar, cultural and gastronomic expeditions across the world – decided to join the ECN after recognising the network’s role in “bridging the gap and showcasing the distinctive value of expedition cruises”.
“This network has effectively addressed the need for comprehensive insights into what sets expedition cruises apart from traditional cruise experiences,” said chief executive James Rodriguez.
“Joining this organisation aligns seamlessly with our commitment to the burgeoning expedition cruise sector.”
His words were echoed by Angelica Vorea, chief executive of UK-based Poseidon Expeditions, which offers “old-school” expedition cruising to the likes of Iceland, Svalbard and Antarctica.
According to Vorea, joining the ECN will allow Poseidon to “cut through the media clutter and focus our message to travel professionals who really want to understand what expedition cruising is like”.
Commenting on the latest additions, ECN chief executive Akvile Marozaite said it was great to have Atlas Ocean Voyages and Poseidon Expeditions onboard as “their product is exactly what expedition cruising is all about”.
