Norwegian Cruise Line has formally named its second Prima-class ship Viva in a star-studded christening ceremony in Miami.
Grammy-nominated artists Luis Fonsi and Pedro Capo, as well as Latin pop heavyweight Paulina Rubio and Saturday Night Live cast member Marcello Hernandez attended the event on Wednesday (29 November), alongside more than 1,500 guests onboard.
Fonsi, who formally christened the vessel with the ceremonial champagne bottle break, said: “It is so exciting to celebrate the magnificent Norwegian Viva in true Latin-style in Miami and alongside fellow A-list Latino entertainers.
“We are giving her a proper despedida before she makes her debut in my hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico.”
Following its August debut in Europe, Viva will now homeport in Puerto Rico until March, offering seven-night cruises across the Caribbean before returning to the Mediterranean in April.
“The addition of Norwegian Viva further elevates our world-class fleet, providing our valued guests with another incredible way to vacation, discover new experiences and create unforgettable memories,” said Norwegian Cruise Line president and chief executive Harry Sommer.
