A number of people on P&O Cruises’ Ventura ship are isolating during a 14-night cruise around the Canary Islands following reports of guests with gastrointestinal symptoms.
Upon embarkation in Southampton, guests sailing on the 3,078-passenger vessel were provided with precautionary health measures for onboard and on shore.
A P&O Cruises spokesperson said: “P&O Cruises swiftly implemented approved and enhanced sanitisation protocols to uphold the welfare of everyone onboard.
“This wide range of approved protocols includes constant and enhanced sanitation across the ship with specialist teams, isolating those affected, serving the buffet, closing the launderettes but offering complimentary washing and pressing and more.”
The line confirmed “a further enhanced and extended sanitisation” was carried out on 17 May in Tenerife.
“Ensuring the health and wellbeing of all guests and crew is our absolute priority,” the spokesperson added.
The BBC reported on Sunday (19 May) how people who sailed on Ventura in previous weeks had said illness had been present during their cruises.
A P&O Cruises told the BBC: “We are so sorry that these guests have been affected.”
