Princess Cruises has once again pulled Sun Princess’s maiden voyage to allow for “additional technical work” in the shipyard to be completed.
President John Padgett has personally written to travel agents and guests who were due to sail on the Sphere-class vessel on the 18 February voyage to inform them of the decision.
The line has also confirmed affected passengers will receive a full refund as well as 50% future cruise credit and travel agent commissions will be protected.
Passengers who have not yet travelled to Rome for the 10-day sailing will be provided with up to $200 per person to cover change fees for flights, while those who have already arrived in Italy will be reimbursed for their round-trip airfare.
Last month, Princess was forced to delay the 4,300-passenger’s maiden sailing from Barcelona on 8 February by 10 days.
The line communicated Sun Princess’s latest cruise cancellation to guests on Tuesday (13 February), saying: “While we will be taking delivery of our new Sun Princess on 14 February, the ship must remain alongside in the shipyard to allow for additional technical work to be completed.
“We regret to announce that we have no other option than to cancel the 18 February voyage.
“We share in your deep disappointment and frustration, and sincerely apologise for the extreme disruption the late cancellation of this voyage creates.”
The line said it was “committed to ensuring that your future experiences with Princess Cruises are nothing short of extraordinary”.
Princess added: “We understand the inconvenience and frustration that this news brings, and we do sincerely apologise for the disruption to your travel plans.
“We genuinely hope that you will consider joining us on another Sun Princess voyage, where we promise to provide you with an unforgettable journey filled with adventure, relaxation, and cherished memories.
“Once again, we extend our deepest apologies for the inconvenience this situation has caused and thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
Sun Princess’s maiden sailing is now scheduled to depart from Civitavecchia on 28 February.
