Princess Cruises has promised to protect travel agent commissions after agreeing with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to delay delivery of its new ship, Sun Princess, which had been due to sail its inaugural voyage next month.
The 4,300-passenger Sun Princess will be the first in a new line of Sphere class vessels, Princess’s largest to date. It was scheduled to make its debut with a 10-day voyage departing Barcelona on 8 February. This sailing has been cancelled.
"We understand this news is disappointing, and we share in that disappointment," said Princess president John Padgett. "We recognise the anticipation that surrounded this sailing, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this cancellation causes."
Guests booked on Sun Princess’s inaugural voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise fare, along with any additional onboard services that were pre-purchased, as well as a 50% future cruise credit (FCC) that can be used on a future Princess voyage. Guests also will receive up to $200 per person for change fees related to air travel plans.
The FCC must be used by 30 November 2024 towards a voyage departing by 31 December 2025 at the latest. Princess also confirmed travel agent commissions due to be paid on bookings for Sun Princess’s inaugural would be protected.
