Royal Caribbean International has temporarily removed calls into its private resort Labadee after Haiti entered a state of emergency earlier this month.
Attacks by powerful gangs on key government targets on 29 February prompted the cruise line to monitor the “evolving” situation on the ground. The line has now suspended calls until 22 March.
“In an abundance of caution, we are temporarily making adjustments to sailings visiting Labadee,” a Royal spokesperson said. “We will continue to monitor and reassess calls as needed, and will communicate updates with guests directly.”
Royal Caribbean president Michael Bayley confirmed the move on Facebook, saying: “We have suspended calls into Labadee, Haiti, for the next seven days and will continue suspension on a rolling basis with three days advance notification to our guests sailing on itineraries impacted and changed as we monitor and evaluate the situation in Haiti."
Liberty of the Seas was the last Royal Caribbean ship to visit the private destination resort on 13 March during its four-day round-trip sailing from Fort Lauderdale.
