British Airways will double its Miami frequency next summer, part of a record number of flights to North America and Mexico.
The additional seven flights a week to the Florida hub means the destination becomes twice-daily year-round.
The move will also mean better connections to Caribbean routes operated from Miami by BA’s oneworld partner American Airlines and will be a boon for cruise passengers.
BA will also upgrade its Miami service by opening a new concept lounge next year.
The carrier will also expand another important leisure route, Las Vegas, which will receive an extra three flights per week during peak months, bringing the weekly total to 10.
Meanwhile, an additional Gatwick-Cancun frequency means the service will be daily.
Frequencies to Vancouver will also be increase, with additional flights from Heathrow, bringing the total to “up to” 14 flights per week during peak summer. This is in conjunction with the airline’s daily flight from Gatwick, meaning a total of three flights per day from June to September.
BA will offer more than 400 direct flights a week to the US, Canada and Mexico during its peak weeks, including 26 US cities.
In other changes, following Virgin Atlantic’s withdrawal from the Heathrow-Austin route, BA flights to the Texan capital will increase by six a week, making a total of 13. Washington Dulles will receive another seven flights, increasing to 21 a week, while Pittsburgh becomes daily for the first time.
Neil Chernoff, BA’s chief planning and strategy officer, said: "The US remains a priority market for us, and we know these network changes will be welcomed by both our business and leisure customers, providing more options than ever before to travel between the UK and the USA.”
BA has launched routes to six US cities in the last decade, including Austin in 2014, New Orleans in 2016, Nashville in 2018, Pittsburgh in 2019, Portland in 2022 and last year, Cincinnati.
