EasyJet claims it will become the first UK airline to launch direct flights to Italy’s Amalfi coast this summer, a move that will open up new package holiday opportunities for agents.
The carrier on Thursday (29 February) confirmed it will launch flights to Salerno’s Amalfi Coast airport, a former military airport, in July when the airport opens to commercial services for the first time.
EasyJet will operate its new Gatwick-Salerno route twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays starting 13 July, with fares leading in from £27.99pp. The airline will also serve Salerno from Milan, Berlin, Basel and Geneva.
Its tour operator arm, easyJet holidays, is offering Amalfi coast packages on a £60pp deposit, inclusive of flights, accommodation, 23kg hold luggage and transfers.
"We are particularly excited to welcome a new destination to our network, with a unique connection from the UK to Salerno’s Amalfi coast airport serving one of the most iconic, scenic parts of Italy from Gatwick,” said easyJet country manager Ali Gayward.
EasyJet has also confirmed it will restart flights between Newcastle and Amsterdam later this year. A twice-weekly service, operating on Thursdays and Sundays, will resume from 5 September.
