The guide hosts everything agents need to sell holidays to St Helena, which is one of the world’s most remote inhabited islands and now more accessible from Johannesburg and Cape Town thanks to increased flight capacity.
Flight information, accommodation recommendations, a suggested itinerary and events listing are all on the digital guide, as well as advice for the best time to visit, and marketing tools and tips from Rainbow Tours. There are responsible travel guidelines too.
Matt Joshua, head of tourism at St Helena Tourism, said the recent increase in flight capacity makes this the perfect time to become an expert in selling the destination.
“Access to St Helena has greatly improved,” he said. “Until 2017 the island was only accessible by ship, but now you can fly from Johannesburg OR Tambo International airport to St Helena with a weekly flight, and during peak season there’s an additional flight from Cape Town.”
Joshua added that tour operators should consider St Helena when seeking new product to add to their portfolios given the island offers a refreshing alternative to destinations struggling with overtourism and pushback from locals.
“With a small community (a population of just 4,000) that offers a big warm welcome, and with tour operators looking for new destinations particularly for repeat clients, St Helena should be on every tour operator’s radar,” he explained. “It is for those who have seen it all and want something different.”
The TTG St Helena Selling Guide is designed to increase agents’ confidence in selling holidays to the island, which Joshua described as “a breath of fresh air in today’s busy modern world”.
