A new four-times-weekly air service between the UK and Jordan’s capital Amman took off from Stansted at the weekend.
Royal Jordanian will operate the route to Queen Alia International airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, complementing its existing daily Heathrow service.
The inaugural flight departed on Sunday (3 March), connecting Stansted with Royal Jordanian’s global network.
Stansted’s aviation director Simon Gorrighan said the route would open up Jordan’s golden triangle – the Wadi Rum desert, the ancient city of Petra and the popular Red Sea diving destination Aqaba.
Royal Jordanian chief commercial officer Karim Makhlouf added the route formed part of effort to develop Amman "as the primary gateway to the Levant" and improve connectivity with the airline’s network.
The Levant is the region comprising the eastern-most extent of the Mediterranean beyond Cyprus, which includes modern-day Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Turkey.
