Turkey’s SunExpress will start operations at Glasgow and Liverpool airports next summer and open a gateway to Cappadocia from Stansted.
Routes from Glasgow to Antalya and Dalaman, plus Liverpool to Antalya, will launch in April 2025. At Liverpool, SunExpress will go head-to-head with Jet2.
Expansion means the airline, a joint venture of Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, will offer around 1.9 million seats to the UK market next year, a 20% increase on summer 2024.
There is also major expansion at Stansted, where the carrier is nearly doubling its weekly flights from 14 to 26 in summer 2025, including two new routes to Dalaman and Kayseri.
Kayseri is the capital of the Cappadocia region, known for its rocky pillar ‘fairy chimneys’ set in a World Heritage landscape. It is a very popular destination for hot air ballooning.
In addition to these routes, SunExpress is launching a twice-weekly service from Newcastle to Dalaman, building on the Antalya service which commenced in 2024.
Other airports will receive greater frequencies, with up to three times daily services to Antalya from Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham for summer 2025.
The carrier has also restructured its fares, with different options including baggage allowances, seat reservations, check-in options and booking flexibility.
