Virgin Atlantic will return to Mexico next year after what will be a more than six-year absence with a new three-times-weekly Cancun service.
The route, which will take off on 19 October 2025, will be a Heathrow exclusive. Virgin will operate the route using an Airbus A350-1000 aircraft featuring 16 upper seats, 56 premium and 325 economy.
Outbound Flight VS93 will depart Heathrow on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 10.10am, arriving into Cancun International at 4.15pm.
The return service, Flight VS94, will depart Cancun on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 6.45pm, arriving back in London at 9.05am the following day.
Virgin will go up against British Airways on its new London-Cancun routing, with flag carrier BA operating its Cancun services from Gatwick airport.
Onward connections will be available from SkyTeam partner Aeromexico and codeshare partner Latam to destinations including Mexico City, Santiago (Chile), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Lima (Peru).
Juha Jarvinen, Virgin Atlantic chief commercial officer, said the carrier was pleased to be returning to Cancun and offering British travellers a new winter sun option.
Andres Martinez, director of the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo, added that growing international connectivity was be a top priority for the organisation as it seeks to drive a "new era" for the Mexican Caribbean.
Virgin ceased flying to Cancun in January 2019 after seven years.
