Would you like to become a TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassador? We’re recruiting agents to help build a Smarter, Better, Fairer travel industry.
Fam trips so inspiring they reduce agents to tears don’t come about every day, but in 2023 these happy tears were in abundance. Last year, TTG’s community of Sustainable Travel Ambassadors embarked on life-changing adventures in Crete, Majorca and Sri Lanka, with the itineraries designed to educate these agents on how their clients can avoid negative impacts and create positive ones when travelling the world.
Attending a series of online workshops, completing business-building tasks and receiving a suite of marketing tools left these Ambassadors knowledgeable in selling sustainable travel – and confident they could increase their responsible holiday sales.
Sustainable Travel Heroes returns with sector champions
“I gained a keen eye for choosing genuinely sustainable suppliers, which has become invaluable, especially when confronted with overwhelming choices in recognising trustworthy partners,” says Ellie Adamo, director at Purpose Travel. “Plus, I had no idea how much fun it would be and how many new friends I would make!”
ArrangeMy Escape’s general manager Jennifer Lynch says the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes programme has enabled her to “create policies, train and advise my team, and even have the confidence to go out into the community”.
“As an agency finding their way when it comes to sustainability, the contacts, training and insight has been truly inspiring for our business,” she added.
The programme was so well received, in fact, that 100% of the Class of 2023 TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors would recommend it to a colleague.
The TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes programme is in its third year, with new opportunities adding to its appeal.
• TTC Tour Brands and AE Expeditions are part of this programme for the first time in 2024, so this is an opportunity to gain fresh and exclusive insight into their products.
• All 20 TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors (in training) will be invited to a networking and education afternoon at TTG Media’s offices in London, where they will meet the programme’s sector-champion partners, aka The Heroes.
• The Class of 2024 will be given the opportunity to join a WhatsApp group with their fellow agents in training, as well as a closed Facebook group containing a community of TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors.
• While previous TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes fam trips have visited the likes of Crete, Sri Lanka, Majorca, Vietnam, Peru and Norway, this year will see agents visit brand-new destinations – watch this space for details!
TTG is looking for 20 more travel agents with a keen interest in responsible tourism to embark on a journey with its sector champion partners – AE Expeditions (part of Aurora Expeditions), Iberostar Hotels & Resorts, Intrepid and TTC Tour Brands – who are also known as the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes.
This agent cohort will be invited to take part in a series of four online workshops between May and July, as well as a Meet the Heroes networking and training event at TTG’s offices in London. The various training sessions will cover everything from carbon footprints and reducing emissions to identifying sustainable suppliers, avoiding greenwashing and marketing responsible experiences, with all agents who “graduate” from the programme being crowned official TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors – and awarded the assets to promote this new status.
Plus, the successful Ambassadors will be given the opportunity to work with the Heroes on hosting client events, redeem exclusive rewards and attend that all-important responsible tourism-focused fam trip.
To apply to join the programme, agents should build a sample sustainable holiday package featuring product from ideally two, but at least one of the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes, explaining what it entails and why it will appeal to their clients in 100 words or fewer. The trip can be for any destination, any duration and any price, and focus on greener ways to travel or visits to social enterprises – or both!
The deadline for applying is Sunday 17 March 2024, with more information available at ttgmedia.com/sustainabletravelheroes and you can enter via the submission form here.
The successful Ambassadors will be chosen by a judging panel and notified by the end of March.
Whether you’re new to selling sustainable travel or a seasoned salesperson, this is an opportunity to not only do your bit to protect the planet and help challenged communities around the world thrive, but also to improve holiday experiences for your customers – because responsible experiences really do promise richer rewards for all.
