It’s often whitewashed walls and azure blues that first spring to mind when thinking of Greece, but your clients can get the best of both worlds by wandering off the beaten track for a white-knuckle adrenaline sport and/or a peaceful retreat immersed in inland nature. Here are four lesser-known Greek adventures to pitch year-round.
Your clients can discover an alternative Greece through a journey that blends adventure, nature, and wellness; alternating between adrenaline and peacefulness.
XTERRA triathlon
Start with the XTERRA Greece Vouliagmeni triathlon, where trails weave through breathtaking landscapes around the Athenian Riviera, pushing athletes to the limits on rugged terrain. The event grows every year (it next takes place in April), and while the race is led by top professional and amateur athletes from all over the world, anyone with a relatively good physical condition is welcome to take part. You can also participate in a team relay with friends.
Wellness in the Peloponnese
For a true switch of pace, clients can head to the serene coastline and lush hills of the Peloponnese for mindful relaxation. The Loutraki spring is considered excellent for soothing skin and chronic conditions, and features like this combined with such beautiful surroundings make the region a go-to spot for wellness. Yoga retreats abound.
Wild rivers
Further north, in Epirus, clients can tackle rushing rivers on a rafting adventure, carving through deep gorges and hidden valleys. The Voidomatis river rises in Vikos gorge and follows an impressive waterway flanked with ancient trees and traditional stone bridges. Clients can start their adventure in one of the Epirus region’s vibrant towns and cities, such as Ioannina or Konitsa, or in one of the picturesque Zagori region’s stone villages brimming with beautiful hotels, guest houses and mansions.
Dive in
For a more tranquil encounter with water, why not suggest clients finish up in Alonissos? The island is a paradise of vibrant marine life and historic shipwrecks, making it one of the best diving spots in the Mediterranean. It is also home to the National Marine Park of Northern Sporades, a refuge for rare seabirds and the Mediterranean monk seal, monachus monachus.
