Edged by the azure waters of Shaviyani Atoll, JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa is a multi-generational hideaway where clients will make memories with family and friends.
There’s getting away from it all, and then there’s JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa. This serene sanctuary is surrounded by a crystal-clear lagoon in the north of the Maldives and is just under an hour from Male by seaplane.
All of the resort’s 60 overwater and beach villas have been meticulously designed with couples, families and friends in mind. They all boast private terraces with pools looking out across the Indian Ocean or the island’s lush gardens. Heading inside, the modern and airy interiors are inspired by the natural surroundings and local Maldivian culture, and guests are greeted by calming, beachy hues. The thatched roofs are reminiscent of upside-down dhonis – the traditional wooden fishing boats of the Maldives – while the slanted roof tips are designed to look like white herons dipping their heads into the water.
The villas are some of the most spacious in the Maldives, ranging from the one-bedroom 234-square-metre Overwater Pool Villa, which sleeps three, to the two-bedroom 285-square-metre Duplex Beach Pool Villa. With a maximum occupancy of six people these feature three bathrooms and roomy living areas, alongside a personal cabana hidden among verdant foliage. They’re ideal for families or couples marking a special occasion, but whichever villa they choose, guests are promised ultimate privacy and tranquillity.
The luxurious multigenerational resort offers five dining venues, including Thai lunchtime favourite Kaashi, set high in lush foliage among the treetops with views of the tropical landscape and ocean. Italian flavours and wood-fired pizzas take centre stage at the poolside Fiamma bistro, while traditional Japanese specialities are in the spotlight at the overwater restaurant Hashi, and Shio specialises in fine dining, signature smoked cocktails and refined wines. Aailaa offers all-day international cuisine, with a bountiful breakfast buffet and a la carte lunch and dinner. Many dishes are crafted with fresh herbs, vegetables and fruits from the huge JW Garden, and this serene oasis reflects the resort’s commitment to sustainability and wellbeing.
Bars include Rum Baan, hidden away in a unique treetop location next to Kaashi and boasting 98 signature rums from around the world. Waterside Wabi Sabi offers Japanese-inspired smoked cocktails, sake, teas and whiskies, which make the perfect aperitif while enjoying a spectacular sunset. The beachfront Horizon Bar is another exquisite spot for soaking up the views, offering swing bar seats and live entertainment at night. While The Wine Room is located in the heart of Aailaa, with an extensive menu featuring 1,620 bottles and 320 labels.
For a truly memorable meal, suggest the resort’s bespoke Destination Dining service. The private Malaafaiy Dinner celebrates traditional Maldivian heritage and can be enjoyed on the beach or overwater jetty. Dishes are carried in a ceremonial wooden box hung from bamboo sticks, accompanied by local drummers. For a celebratory meal, recommend newcomer Riha, where eight courses of regional Indian cuisine are served in a sunken dining area on the beach, surrounded by tiki torches.
The resort is a dream destination for families, and youngsters can enjoy more than 100 activities a week at the Family by JW Little Griffins Kids’ Club, which is one of the largest in the Maldives. The programme ranges from science experiments and arts and crafts to sandcastle-building competitions, pizza making, scavenger hunts and hide and seek at the 43-foot-long pirate ship. Parents can also book a babysitting service.
There are two main pools and a children’s pool, and a multipurpose playground is ideal for a game of volleyball or football. For children aged 12 and above, the Teen Lounge is kitted out with PlayStations, table pool and a plunge pool, and hosts a range of activities. It takes around 20 minutes to walk the length of the island, making it ideal for family explorations together.
For some downtime, parents can indulge their children in a special treatment designed for youngsters at the Spa by JW. For adults, bespoke experiences are offered in the six treatment rooms overlooking the turquoise water. Personal training sessions, yoga classes and guided meditation are available, with an overwater gym and yoga pavilion.
Clients can also explore the marine life in the lagoon with the team at the dive and watersports centre, with daily excursions including diving, snorkelling, dolphin watching and fishing. Watersports span jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking, standup paddleboarding, banana boat rides and kite-surfing.
With an array of dining, activities and relaxation available, at JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa your clients can be mindful and present, as they make incredible memories together.
