Saskatchewan, the province sandwiched between Alberta and Manitoba, is the ideal destination for second-time or repeat visitors to Canada. Many choose to combine Saskatchewan and Alberta in particular in their itinerary, making the most of the destinations’ cosmopolitan cities and remote wildernesses.
It’s popular because Saskatchewan is one big, beautiful place. It’s home to more than 161 million acres of unspoiled nature, punctuated by the spacious cities of Regina and Saskatoon where visitors are never more than minutes away from impressive natural landscapes and wide-open spaces. The expansive sky and far-reaching landscapes provide visitors with a welcome breath of fresh air, amidst a time when fresh air is more welcome than most.
The province’s dramatic “living skies” command attention as sunsets reveal vivid fiery shades and the night sky here – which offers some of the darkest stargazing spots in North America – showcases the infinite wonders of the cosmos.
A four-season destination, Saskatchewan provides visitors with a gigantic choice of activities and experiences year round. Wildlife watchers can search for owls, sage grouse, elk, white-tailed deer, moose and beavers in the province’s national parks, while adrenaline seekers can kayak Churchill River’s white-water rapids or go zip-lining in Cypress Hills, Waskesiu or North Battleford. Windsurfing, wakeboarding, kite-boarding, sky diving, dogsledding and even more extreme outdoor adventures await too.
Travellers who prefer to explore at a slower pace can take their time ambling along Saskatchewan’s many hiking trails on foot, or on horseback, and then reset and recharge in one of the province’s spa resorts. Manitou Springs Mineral Spa and Temple Gardens Mineral Spa Resort Hotel are both highlights, while the cities provide plenty of opportunities to unwind and enjoy Canada’s cultural scene.
More than 250 museums, art galleries and science centres are dedicated to honouring Saskatchewan’s history and heritage, with the contents designed to bring the destination’s eclectic culture to life. Plus, on various dates throughout the year, the province is host to vibrant festivals and lively events – perfect for building an itinerary around.
Visitors will not only find themselves enchanted by the natural attractions and cultural experiences of Saskatchewan, but by the cuisine too. Whether clients are keen to tuck into the hearty meat and potatoes once cooked by early European settlers, sample some of the modern tastes in the destination’s fine dining restaurants, or make a beeline for the craft breweries and wine bars, they can guarantee a good time and satiated stomachs.
What’s more, is that Saskatchewan’s hospitable nature means guests are welcomed warmly and treated as part of the community, or like a member of the great Canadian family. No matter which part of the province a customer chooses to explore, they’ll be left with a lasting Saskatchewan-shaped impression.
