25hours Hotels will open its second property in Copenhagen this summer, two years after the group’s debut in the Danish capital with Hotel Indre By.

Perched on the waterfront district of Nyhavn, the colourful 25hrs Hotel Paper Island hopes to emulate ‘a Scandinavian holiday home’ in the midst of its bustling location.

Also known as Christiansholm, Paper House island was constructed as a 29,000-square-meter artificial island over 300 years ago. It earned its stationery-inspired name for its association with the Danish press, who used it as newspaper storage until 2013. Once off limits to the public, it is now open to visitors and today holds the status of Copenhagen’s fourth most popular tourist attraction. The district is buzzing with things to do and see, including fashion shows, art exhibitions, street food stalls and concerts.

Hotel Paper Island's guest rooms are inspired by Scandinavian design

The new-build hotel on the island will offer 128 guest rooms ranging from ‘Medium’ size to ‘Gigantic’, six of which have private outdoor areas, and all of which are designed by Stylt Trampoli in Gothenburg. A focus on ‘nostalgic elements and collected objects’ will also be present in the rooms, adding a historical twist to an otherwise modern property.

Seven of the Gigantic rooms come with a Schindelhauer bike, encouraging guests to explore the Nordic hub by pedal.

Visitors can also expect healthy snacks and drinks at the Nomad Day Bar beside the lobby, as well as a rooftop bar on the eighth floor. For dining options, 25hrs Hotel Paper Island will offer an Asian culinary experience, with dishes including pulled noodles and pork belly served at communal tables and along the kitchen counter of its Tiger Lily restaurant. All cooking will also be done in an open kitchen, led by Jan Tran. The restaurant has 87 covers, as well as a revolving round table and small outdoor area.

“With its location directly in the harbour, the hotel perfectly embodies the unique character of Copenhagen. Our guests can enjoy that special hygge feeling, far from the madding crowd of the city centre, but with direct access via a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists. The Royal Opera sits perched on a neighbouring island too,” said general manager Grit Rister.

“You can rest assured that both of our properties in Copenhagen are keen to welcome neighbours and locals, offering lots of pop-up stores, live music and events, in addition to the restaurant, cafe and bar.”

25hours Hotel Paper Island will be open from 29 July with rates due to start from DKK1,800 (£206) per night (including VAT, without breakfast).
