Specially commissioned welcome music, "competitive" seat pitches and gender-neutral uniforms have been unveiled ahead of AirJapan’s February 2024 debut.
The new airline, an offshoot of ANA will serve medium-haul international routes in south-east Asia, expanding in time to serve the wider continent. It will follow the ANA Group’s “full-service and low-cost” business model.
The aircraft will feature 324 economy class seats made of premium Japanese faux leather, which will have a 32-inch (81cm) pitch. Two styles of USB ports will be incorporated along with tablet holders.
AirJapan’s cabin attendant uniforms have been designed to express the brand’s “Fly Thoughtful” philosophy and to incorporate traditional Japanese cultural elements such as knots and layers.
They are made in part from plant-derived fabrics, with general neutral options to maximise flexible combinations. Trainers will be offered as well as leather shoes.
Special boarding music featuring the sounds of traditional shakuhachi and koto instruments and combining Japanese and Western influences has been created in collaboration with the Tokyo University of the Arts.
Details of menus have yet to be revealed but AirJapan will offer meals for a set fee that may be reserved online in advance, as well as meals and snacks that can be purchased onboard the flight.
The brand’s website has also been launched.
“At AirJapan, we are dedicated to the passion of our passengers’ pursuits, which inspires us to create inflight products and services to foster the innovative spirit of those flying with us,” said Hideki Mineguchi, president of AirJapan.
