Akaryn Hotel Group is expanding outside its Thai roots for the first time with the planned opening of hotels in Laos and Cambodia.
The President Hotel in Vientiane in Laos will bring a much-needed boost to the five-star sector in the city, with Akaryn opening the 30-room hotel in a building originally created for the Laotians by the Chinese government as a gift.
The President will also house a private member’s club, with access to a cigar lounge, humidor and whisky cellar.
Meanwhile designer Kenzo Takada is leading the creative force for Arovada by Akaryn, a private island retreat due to open in Cambodia in June 2016.
As well as having the fashion designer behind the creative steer, the hotel will also be home to the group’s flagship Ayurah Wellness Centre, with Akaryn hoping to position it as a globally renowned destination spa.
Set on the private island of Koh Krabey, a 20-minute boat transfer south of Sihanoukville, the resort will have 40 villas.
Anchalika Kijkanakorn, founder and director of Akaryn Hotel Group, said: “Vientiane has long been a favourite destination of mine and it feels as if Laos is embarking on a new phase of development. The President is a real pride project for the locals who are anxious to see how hotel in such an iconic building will look. And in Cambodia, we think Arovada by Akaryn promises to be one of the most extraordinary island resorts in the world.”
The group has four hotels in Hua Hin, Samui, Phuket and now Chiang Mai, where it opened The Akyra Manor in October. Meanwhile, Aleenta Phuket-Phang Nga has added 34 new pool villas as part of a £3 million re-development of the resort.
