Banyan Tree announces first hotel in Japan

The Singapore-based hotel group will take over the existing Hotel Ryozen in Kyoto, which is due to close for refurbishment at the end of October 2019.

The property will be renovated as part of a collaboration between Banyan Tree and investment firm Richesse Management for a scheduled reopening as a Banyan Tree property in 2022.

The renovated hotel will offer 60 rooms plus a restaurant, bar, library, gym, Banyan Street Spa and hot-spring (onsen) baths.

Ho Kwon Ping, executive chairman of Banyan Tree, said: “As we accelerate our expansion to grow our brands worldwide, this agreement marks Banyan Tree’s move in planting the first hotel flag in Japan, renowned for its distinctive culture, cuisine and scenic destinations.

“We aspire to further develop the potential of Kyoto as a world-class destination for travellers who seek exceptional experiences.”

Banyan Tree Holdings, which also runs the Angsana, Cassia and Dhawa brands, currently operates 49 hotels and resorts with another 23 under construction and 30 further properties under development.
