Belmond is to work with one of the world’s most in-demand chefs on new culinary experiences for its legendary train.
Jean Imbert will be the new chef of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, Europe, with his creations having launched this month for the first journey of the 2022 season.
Imbert’s new concept spans all of the train’s culinary menus and experiences, from in-cabin breakfast, to lunch, afternoon tea, canapes during aperitivo hour in 3674 Bar Car, and dinner. In addition, indulgent ‘Cabin Service’ delicacies designed by him will be served around the clock.
Imbert has also re-designed the visual identity of the train’s three 1920s restaurant cars, (L’Oriental, Etoile Du Nord, and Cote d’Azur), “to reflect his vision”, from new mood lighting to bespoke French porcelain dinnerware.
“To be written into the story of the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is a childhood dream come true,” Imbert said. “I genuinely feel as though the stars have aligned for me to have this once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am looking forward to sharing my deep passion for the train, through food, with our guests in this season and for years to come.”
“We are so excited to be inviting Jean Imbert to cast his creative magic on the entire culinary offering on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express,” added general manager Pascal Deyrolle. “He is bringing a new level of culinary excellence – keeping the legend and mystery of the world’s most famous train alive.”
Prices for a trip on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, A Belmond Train, Europe start from £3,353 per person, for a one-night journey from Paris to Venice, including a three-course lunch, afternoon tea refreshments, a four-course dinner, and breakfast in the cabin.
Imbert just gained a Michelin star at Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris only nine weeks after his restaurant, Jean Imbert au Plaza Athenee, launched there in January.
He also oversees Monsieur Dior, a restaurant at Dior’s newly renovated flagship on Avenue Montaigne in Paris, and La Case, a restaurant at Cheval Blanc in St Barths. Belmond, Dior and Cheval Blanc are all owned by luxury giant LVMH.
Imbert has also embarked on culinary partnerships in the US with singer, producer and entrepreneur Pharrell Williams.
