The team behind Andalusia’s Finca Cortesin will open sister property Son Net in Majorca this May, in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The property is a 15-minute drive from Palma, and is on a private Majorcan estate dating back to 1672. It was previously owned by several prominent Spanish families before becoming a residential estate.
Upon opening it will offer 31 suites, showcasing many of the mansion’s original features, including rustic beams, stone floors and archways, carved wooden ceilings, antique fireplaces, an original 17th-century interior courtyard and spring-fed well, and private family chapel. There will also be a curated private art collection.
Outside, the property will offer multiple pools with private cabanas, gardens, an ecological vegetable and herb garden, a small farm and a private vineyard. Food will all be locally sourced, with native orange and lemon trees growing on the estate, fresh seafood procured from the island and fresh olive oil tastings from a century-old olive press. The vineyard will produce Malvasia white wine for the open wine cellar.
The independently co-owned hotel is led by the management team behind Finca Cortesin, which opened in 2009. Javier Lopez Granados, chief executive and president of Single Home SA and Finca Cortesin, said: “Following the success of Finca Cortesin, we felt that a second property was the natural next step for the brand, and we are excited to bring the spirit of what we have created in Andalusia to Majorca, while offering something fresh for the destination.”
Rene Zimmer, managing director of Finca Cortesin Hotels & Resorts, said Son Net was the inspiration for much of Finca Cortesin in its early days. He added: “It therefore feels very special to recreate – with its own quintessentially Majorcan flair, of course – the essence of Finca Cortesin in Majorca, and what makes it so unique. I feel confident that the soul of Finca Cortesin is a perfect fit for this island, and the renewed Son Net will exemplify this.”
