Guests at COMO Maalifushi can immerse themselves in the dark skies and hear cosmic tales during a Space Summer Camp led by a former Nasa astronaut.
Veteran astronaut Nicole Stott will join guests for the complimentary camp, which runs from 12 to 20 August and will be offered to all visitors.
The space-themed island experiences will include stargazing, where Stott will regale visitors with tales from nearly 30 years at Nasa.
They will hear what it was like to spend 104 days at the International Space Station and about when she became the 10th woman in history to conduct a spacewalk. With no light pollution, the Maldives’ night skies are famed for their exceptional views of the moon and stars.
Participants can decorate a spacesuit during one session, which will be worn by astronauts on space flights.
They will also be able to join Stott’s international space mail project by writing to astronauts on missions. The messages and artwork will be combined with contributions from children around the world and sent to the space travellers.
The space-training snorkel safari takes place in the property’s house reef, and guests can quiz Stott about the time she prepared for spaceflight by spending 18 days living underwater at the Aquarius Undersea Laboratory.
Other activities include art sessions, sampling space snacks, a treasure hunt, movies under the stars and a bonfire night.
COMO Maalifushi is part of COMO Hotels and Resorts and is the only resort in the Maldives’ Thaa Atoll.
