Domes Resorts is set to expand outside of Greece, opening its first international hotel in 2022.
Known for its resorts in Crete and Corfu, Domes – which is part of Ledra Hotels and Villas – is set to launch a hotel in Portugal in 2022.
The project involves taking over management of The Lake Spa Resort in Portugal, a 192-room beach hotel on the bay of Vilamoura.
As part of a €7 million investment project with property owner Hotel Investment Partners – the largest owner of resort hotels in southern Europe, backed by funds managed by Blackstone – The Lake Spa Resort will undergo a complete refurbishment of all rooms and common areas.
There will also be a new adults-only pool and pool bar added, and all F&B outlets will be rebranded.
Domes’ latest move comes off the back of a strong 2021 which saw the repositioning and opening of the renovated Domes of Corfu, Autograph Collection, joining one of Marriott’s luxury portfolio brands.
Other hotels in the group include Domes of Elounda, Autograph Collection; Domes Noruz Chania, Autograph Collection; Domes Miramare, a Luxury Collection Resort; and Domes Zeen Chania, a Luxury Collection Resort.
HIP was founded in 2015 by Alejandro Hernandez-Puertolas and Banco Sabadell and was acquired by Blackstone real estate funds in 2017. Through follow-on acquisitions, the portfolio has grown to 65 hotels in Spain, Greece and Portugal.
HIP works with other brands such as Ritz-Carlton, Barcelo, AMR Resorts and Melia and is said to be investing more than €500 million into its existing portfolio of resorts.
Domes Resorts will be joining TTG Luxury’s Luxpo event on 14 and 15 December, a market-leading one-to-one virtual meetings event for the luxury travel community.
Agents will be able to find out more about Domes’ plans during Luxpo, enjoying video updates with a number of suppliers on TTG Media’s bespoke events platform.
