Dorchester Collection to expand into the Middle East and Asia
Dorchester Collection has announced opening dates for its first properties in the Middle East and Asia, as it names the general manager of The Lana, Dubai.
Located in Downtown Dubai, The Lana, Dubai will be the brand’s first Middle Eastern property when it opens in September 2023, overlooking the Business Bay area. It will offer 225 rooms, including 83 suites, and is being designed by architects Foster + Partners, with interiors by Parisian duo Gilles & Boissier.
Richard Alexander will be general manager, and will also oversee operations at Dorchester Collection’s three luxury residential developments in Dubai. Alexander joins Dorchester Collection following five years in general manager roles in the Bahamas, and was previously the general manager at Jumeirah Al Naseem in Dubai. He also spent a further seven years in senior leadership roles at a number of Jumeirah’s other properties.
Dorchester Collection will also open its first hotel in Asia in 2028, after being selected to manage the hotel within Torch Tower in Tokyo, which will become the highest building in Japan. When it launches the hotel will be the eleventh property for the Collection, following the opening of The Lana, Dubai. It will offer views of Tokyo Bay, the city centre and Mount Fuji.
Dorchester Collection chief executive Christopher Cowdray said: “This new hotel will become a beacon for Japan’s ultra-luxury hotel landscape and set new benchmarks. World-class architects will inspire with their symbolic design torch concept, lighting up not only the future of Tokyo and Japan but also the world.”
