Edition has revealed its 15th property with The Tampa Edition, which is billed as the first five-star hotel in the city.
The Tampa Edition is now open, with an official launch planned for October. It’s spread across 26 storeys, with 172 rooms and suites and 38 private residences.
All rooms look out onto the city or have views of the boat-filled Garrison Channel. They feature marble bathrooms, custom Jean-Michel Frank-inspired furniture and photography by the late fashion and portrait photographer Rodney Smith. There are five Garden Terrace rooms, while the one-bedroom Penthouse has a media room, open-plan living and dining room, pantry and walk-in wardrobe.
The property is part of the ongoing $3.5 billion Water Street Tampa development, which plans to double the footprint of downtown Tampa, with hotels, retail, dining, workplace and residential offerings.
The property also offers a rooftop terrace with a pool, a spa and wellness facility, fitness centre, and seven bars and restaurants, including a signature offering from Michelin-starred chef John Fraser.
Edition founder Ian Schrager said: “John Fraser has created signature restaurants for us at The West Hollywood Edition and The Times Square Edition – both of which are amazingly successful. Recognised as one of the best chefs in the world, his health and wellbeing-focused cooking style is appropriate, not just for Florida’s climate, but it also fits into Water Street’s wellness principles. This is a great opportunity to bring a world class, internationally recognised, Michelin star chef to Tampa.”
The Tampa Edition has been created in collaboration with Marriott International, and Schrager said: “Not often have I had the opportunity to work on a project that will completely transform the very centre and heartbeat of a great city like Tampa, and make it even greater.
“I call it urban expansion, rather than urban renewal, and it serves as a model for how cities will transform and evolve the future. The scale of it is mind-boggling and we’re very happy to be right here and a part of it.”
