Explora Journeys and Italian shipbuilding firm Fincantieri have decided to push back the launch of Explora II into the autumn.
The decision means both the ultra-luxury line’s ships have been delayed coming out of the Fincantieri shipyard where they were built.
In a statement on Thursday (20 June), Explora said: “After careful and detailed reviews of Explora II, it was decided that more time is needed for the final finishes to the ship to guarantee the highest quality and to ensure that the new ships delivers to the fullest on the brand’s promise of an unmatched luxury ocean experience.”
Explora II had been due to start operating its maiden voyage on 11 August, but it will now be delivered on 12 September and its maiden cruise will depart on 16 September.
The debut seven-night voyage will depart from Civitavecchia, Italy, and call into Lipari, Trapani, Siracusa, all Italy; Valletta, Malta; and Tarragona, Spain.
The line said it is contacting affected passengers, either directly or through their travel agents, to arrange an alternative sailing on Explora II or Explora I which is also sailing in the Mediterranean Sea.
Explora II will sail in the western Mediterranean once it launches.
Last year, Explora Journeys cancelled Explora I’s maiden voyage from Southampton at the 11th hour, owning to an issue with some of the materials used onboard the vessel.
