Designs have been released for the Presidential Suite on the completely reimagined Orient Express, which is part of Accor and will welcome its first guests in 2024.
Designs for the renovation of the former Nostalgie-Istanbul-Orient-Express train were first launched at an immersive exhibition in Paris in October 2022. French architect Maxime d’Angeac has led the project, having previously carried out restoration and decoration projects for luxury houses including Daum, Hermes and Guerlain.
The train will launch in 2024, with the newly revealed Presidential Suite making its debut a year later. It will occupy an entire train car, and will be 69 feet long and 9 feet wide. The 55-square-metre space will accommodate a living room adorned with Lalique panels and a gas fireplace. The bedroom features a king-sized bed, embroidered velvet on the walls and custom-made furniture.
The suite opens onto an original luxury cabin dating from 1929, which has been fully restored and features solid mahogany and Nelson and Prou marquetry, with two beds. The suite also leads to a secret room known as the Cabinet de l’Egoiste, (or ‘office of the vain’), which is “dedicated to good vibes and epicurean festivities.”
Maxime d’Angeac said: "The Orient Express Presidential Suite captures the essence of the future train. It is a work carved out of excess, inspired by the geniuses and pioneers of Art Deco, and by the importance of refinement and the absolute finesse of detail. It is a suite where travellers can experience history, extreme luxury and ultimate comfort all at once."
