The €70 million mountain resort, located in Poiana Brasov, marks Kempinski’s debut address in Romania, and is slated to open at the end of 2026.
Kempinski Poiana Brasov will feature 120 lakeside rooms and suites, spa and wellness facilities, and three restaurants showcasing local and international cuisine. The events space, which has a view of the Carpathian mountains, will open for both corporate events and summer weddings.
Guests have direct access to 24km of ski slopes on the flanks of the Postavarul massif and can spend the summer months walking through nearby forests and meadows.
Bernold Schroeder, chief executive of Kempinski Group, said the project, which is part of the group’s growing collection of European mountain resorts, appeals to the “increasing demand from guests for holidays that immerse them in the natural world and provide a blank canvas for active adventures.”
The town, already the biggest mountain resort in Romania, is located in the centre of the country. Nearby is the medieval city of Brasov, the country’s sixth most populous city, famed for its gothic architecture. Peles Castle, Rasnov Fortress and Bran Castle, known as the home of Count Dracula, are accessible within 45 minutes.
Direct flights are available from London, Dubai, Barcelona, Brussels, Munich, Stuttgart, Geneva and Tel Aviv to the new Brasov-Ghimbav international airport, a 30-minute drive from the hotel. Bucharest International airport can be reached in under three hours.
Developer Rock Holding will be making its first foray into luxury hospitality with the resort, and chief executive Mircea Cotiga said: “Poiana Brasov is without doubt one of the most attractive parts of Romania and holds great development potential."
