Kerzner International has launched a new portfolio to sit alongside its Atlantis and One&Only brands.
Called Rare Finds, the collection has started with Kerzner assuming management of Bab Al Shams, a desert resort owned by Meydan.
The resort will now close for an “extensive reimagination” before reopening as part of the new collection early next year.
Kerzner said “the new vertical” will be “a diverse collection of resorts celebrating the individuality of each property”, that will continue to “strategically grow” over the coming years.
“I am excited to welcome Bab Al Shams Desert Resort to the newly introduced Rare Finds collection. The addition of this legacy landmark desert resort marks Kerzner International’s continued growth and expansion within the region,” said Philippe Zuber, chief executive of Kerzner International. “We are thrilled to continue to be part of the future of Dubai, and we look forward to welcoming guests to discover this new, evolved idyllic retreat.”
Work on the resort will include new designs throughout, new culinary experiences, a rooftop lounge, reimagined infinity pool and evolving the wellbeing offering at the spa.
Staff will curate itineraries and bespoke outdoor activities for guests, from desert equestrian sports, to star gazing with in-house astronomers; sandboarding to hot air balloon rides. The family-friendly resort will have numerous break-out spaces and activities, including a games room and family entertainment venue.
“Bab Al Shams is the original immersive desert experience in Dubai, having first opened its doors in 2004,” said Issam Galadari, chief executive of Meydan City Corporation. “We are looking forward to working closely with the Kerzner team to bring their exceptional service standards and renowned expertise to invigorate and breathe new life into this resort, one that holds a special place in the hearts of UAE residents and visitors alike.”
The new general manager for the resort will be Gilles Sohier, who joins from One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai.
Kerzner is also set to open two further resorts in Dubai this year, Atlantis, The Royal Resort & Residences later this year and One&Only One Za’abeel.
