The luxury hospitality brand has confirmed the development of its fifth Italian hotel.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has confirmed the development of a new property in Rome, bringing the luxury brand’s Italian portfolio to a total of five.
Situated within the ancient estate of The Gardens of Sallust, the hotel will feature 108 guest rooms and suites across ten 19th century villas formerly occupied by wealthy Romans. Many of the suites will include private patios and terraces with views of the property’s manicured gardens, which have been designed by Milan-based landscaper Parc Nouveau.
The luxury hotel, which also boasts interiors curated by the award-winning Gilles & Boissier, has been scheduled for a 2026 opening.
“Rome is home to many historical and architectural treasures and a destination of choice for luxury travellers,” said Laurent Kleitman, group chief executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. “We will take the same meticulous approach in Rome as we have with our other historic properties, ensuring that we honour and respect local artisanal craftsmanship and Roman cultural heritage, while incorporating the finest luxury, contemporary comfort, sustainability standards and the legendary service for which Mandarin Oriental is renowned.”
Guests will have the option of six restaurants and bars, including a rooftop terrace, al fresco dining and a stand-alone dining concept in one of the villas.
For wellness, the hotel will have a spa featuring two large indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a state-of-the-art gym. There will also be six treatment rooms, one VIP treatment suite, thermal rooms and a dedicated sundeck.
The announcement of Mandarin Oriental Rome’s development comes a year after the luxury brand confirmed plans to open its first Sardinian property.
Situated on a hillside overlooking the Gulf of Pevero, Mandarin Oriental, Porto Cervo will offer a private beach, accessible via a 1,148-foot picturesque trail, when it opens in 2026. The hotel will have 83 rooms and suites, five restaurants and bars, a spa, fitness center, indoor and outdoor pool, and a beach club on Porto Paglia beach.
The elite hospitality brand will also re-open the historic Hotel Cristallo in Cortina d’Ampezzo as a Mandarin Oriental next summer ahead of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, marking the first ever mountain resort in its collection of 34 properties.
