Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is to expand its presence in London with the opening of a new property in Mayfair later this year.
The property, which will be called Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, is based in historic Hanover Square and will feature 50 rooms and 79 private residences. It is due to open in winter 2022 and will be a sister property to the existing Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in Knightsbridge.
Facilities will include the first UK restaurant from Michelin-starred Korean American chef Akira Back, as well as a bar and spa.
Susanne Hatje will be the new hotel’s general manager, having previously managed the Mandarin Oriental, New York.
“We are incredibly excited to open a Mandarin Oriental hotel in the heart of such an iconic location,” said Hatje.
“Mayfair has such a rich history and pedigree within luxury, fashion and art and is continually evolving. This is a wonderful parallel for our new property, which will introduce delightful touches for which Mandarin Oriental is loved, but in a more intimate and informal setting.”
The new Mayfair property has been designed by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, who have previously worked on the high-profile Lloyd’s building in London and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
