New Wilderness lodge Bisate Reserve is set to open this September, close to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, home to the iconic mountain gorillas.
An expansion of the existing Bisate lodge, the new property is positioned on the rim of a volcano with four large villas offering far-reaching views of the surrounding wilderness. Each lodge is designed with natural materials and the highest attention to detail, reflecting the architectural heritage of Rwanda.
Focused on protecting the area’s natural biodiversity, the lodge has already been instrumental in reforesting and rehabilitating the surrounding forest after it was used for agriculture.
For guests staying at the lodge, expert-guided gorilla encounters arranged with the national park authorities will be the main draw, while the property will also lead guests on nature trails and birding excursions. Visitors will also have the chance to engage with and support local communities.
“Since Bisate first opened in 2017, it has been extremely rewarding to work closely with the Rwanda Development Board and our other partners to grow our positive impact in Rwanda,” said Wilderness Rwanda’s managing director Rob Baas.
“At the heart of our conservation narrative lies a monumental achievement: the planting of nearly 100,000 indigenous trees, transforming a former agricultural site into a thriving forest, hence the apt naming of it as a ‘reserve’.
“Reserve also talks to the finest wine and whisky; the finest in luxury. Staying at Bisate Reserve will bring these two worlds together in a profound way for our guests, offering the most exclusive, intimate and impactful experience”, added Baas.
