Amsterdam landmark Hotel De L’Europe is to gain a new wing of artist-designed suites later this year.
Situated on the river Amstel, the hotel recently celebrated its 125 birthday. A multimillion-euro transformation over the pandemic resulted in a complete redesign of its rooms, suites and entire ground floor.
The work includes a reimagined grand lobby, event spaces and three restaurants. Natural materials, warm colours, unique objects and antique and bespoke furniture feature throughout.
Later in 2023, an entirely new collection of suites, curated by some of the Netherlands’ “most celebrated and innovative creatives”, will open in the adjacent ‘t Huys (house) wing where the ground floor already includes stylish lounge-style bookstore Mendo and an innovative florist.
Built on the site of the first inn in Amsterdam, Hotel De L’Europe is filled with priceless Dutch art from the Heineken family who have owned the property since 1950.
With the expansion of ‘t Huys the wing the hotel is encouraging greater community involvement, envisaging it becoming a “living creative space”.
Several of the hotel’s existing rooms have expansive balconies and terraces with canal and sunset views.
The three restaurants include two-Michelin-star Flore, where sustainability-minded chef Bas van Kranen’s vision of “conscious fine dining” means a largely vegetable-led menu.
