Four Seasons and Rosewood Hotel & Resorts have both announced they are to open hotels in Venice, with refurbishments of classic properties in the city.
Four Seasons is to take over the management of the historic Hotel Danieli in Venice after the property has undergone an extensive renovation.
The brand will then reintroduce the property as Hotel Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel, in 2025 when the work has been completed.
The hotel, which consists of three historic buildings linked by bridges, is located in the Riva degli Schiavoni area along the Grand Canal and the renovation of its interiors will be led by designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.
“Italy is a beloved and important destination for luxury travellers,” said Bart Carnahan, Four Seasons’ president, global business development and portfolio management. “With Hotel Danieli, we are adding another iconic property to our Italian portfolio, where we will honour the historic legacy of this Venetian landmark while also introducing the exceptional Four Seasons service experience to one of Italy’s most popular destinations.”
The property will remain open with “select” services and amenities available during its transformation when it will be operated and managed by Gruppo Statuto under the name The Hotel Danieli, Venezia.
Meanwhile, Rosewood Hotel & Resorts has been selected to manage the renowned Hotel Bauer in Venice.
Owned by real estate developer SIGNA Prime Selection, the hotel is between the Grand Canal and St Mark’s Square.
Originally built in 1880, Hotel Bauer is set to undergo a multi-year renovation from November, at which time the hotel will close as it prepares to reopen as Rosewood Hotel Bauer in 2025.
The work will be led by Venice-based architect, Alberto Torsello, and interior design group, BAR Studio, and Rosewood said there will be an emphasis on sustainability throughout the restoration with the hotel aiming to obtain three sustainability certificates – the Green Pass, Casa Klima and LEED Gold.
“We are thrilled to be growing Rosewood’s presence in Europe with this pivotal addition in such a magnificent and beloved city like Venice,” said Radha Arora, president of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and co-chief development officer. “Across our portfolio we have been honored with opportunities to restore and reimagine many historic spaces across the globe, and we are incredibly thankful that Rosewood has been chosen to help breathe new life into Hotel Bauer.”
It will be known as Rosewood Hotel Bauer and will be home to 110 rooms, with over half of the accommodations being suites, including several signature suites and a presidential suite. The hotel will also have a rooftop bar and garden, a wellness facility, and an outdoor pool with a bar located on the eighth floor.
The hotel joins an Italian portfolio that includes Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany and the upcoming Rosewood Rome, set to open in 2024. Meanwhile, Rosewood Vienna will be opening this summer.
