Six Senses Kanuhura has opened for bookings from 1 September, following the brand’s makeover of a much-loved Maldivian island.
The resort is in the Lhaviyani atoll and is home to one of the country’s largest natural resort beaches and also comes with two private islands.
Six Senses said it had “intentionally opted to reinvent a Maldivian icon, reimagining the existing resort and resources while continuing to protect the natural beauty of the island” with a “what stays has been enhanced” philosophy.
The resort will have 91 beachfront and overwater villas which include 12 newly introduced Beach Retreats, offering one- to three-bedroom options for families or larger groups.
Dining options include Drift and Bottega, as well as guests being able to eat in the resort’s organic gardens, where a microgreens nursery has been grown alongside wild orchids. New to the resort is multi-deck Point restaurant and bar.
“Watching the island transform in the past few months has been an exciting journey, and we all look forward to revealing the new Six Senses Kanuhura,” said Bryce Seator, the resort’s general manager. “Following its long history, the island has been reborn, and the overall experience has been reinvented to bring the brand’s sustainability and wellness ethos to a new corner in the Maldives.”
Interiors have been “inspired by turquoise lagoon waters and lush tropical nature”, combined with Six Senses’ familiar rustic and “resolutely eco-friendly” approach, with everything crafted from local and sustainable materials.
Younger guests from three to 11 years old can spend time at the Grow With Six Senses kids’ club, which offers fun and educational activities, such as treasure hunts, kids’ yoga, crafts, and upcycling, and families can try cooking classes, watersports, or private beach dining; the Island Hideout is the option for teenagers.
Six Senses Kanuhura is in one of the most pristine corners of the Lhaviyani atoll, and is 95 miles north of Male, a 40-minute seaplane ride from Velana International airport.
