Sri Lankan-based hotel group Uga has acquired the existing Riva Hotel in Negombo to further bolster its portfolio of properties on the island.
The group, which already runs five properties in Sri Lanka, plans to reopen its latest acquisition as Uga Riva on 1 November.
The historic 180-year-old property is located on a five-acre coconut plantation near Negombo’s beaches and Colombo International airport. The heritage manor house features seven rooms with open verandahs, as well as a traditional Sri Lankan courtyard wrapped around a pond.
Following the acquisition, the hotel firm said that Uga Riva would be “thoughtfully reimagined with Uga’s signature style, sophisticated design and personalised service”. Although there will be no major renovation before its reopening later this year.
Priyanjith Weerasooria, Uga’s managing director, said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Riva Hotel to the Uga family. This venture underscores our commitment to unparalleled guest experiences and elevating Sri Lanka’s hospitality.”
Uga already runs Uga Residence, Uga Ulagalla, Uga Jungle Beach, Uga Bay and Uga Chena Huts in Sri Lanka.
