More details have been released about Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, the brand’s first resort in Greece, which will open this summer.
The resort at Navarino Bay in the south-west Peloponnese, is arranged down a landscaped hillside to a beachfront overlooking one of the most unspoiled landscapes in the Mediterranean, with countryside and sea views.
It features 99 suites and villas, with private pools and spacious terraces, with the villas set cave-like into the hillside.
Five restaurants and bars will serve Greek and international cuisine with locally sourced ingredients.
Reflecting the cultural heritage of Costa Navarino, the Mandarin Oriental incorporates local Mediterranean plants and a “soothing” terracotta palette.
Aspects of 19th-century Greek design will be reflected in motifs and wood carvings, while fabrics and rugs in the suites and villas are inspired by the weaving of traditional Greek dress.
Custom-designed furniture, floor-to-ceiling windows and state-of-the-art entertainment technology are also promised.
The resort and its environs feature more than 4,000 replanted olive trees and over 500,000 planted native shrubs, while the overall project has been built to “rigorous sustainable specifications”. As with all Mandarin Oriental hotels, the resort will be single-use plastic-free.
A 25-metre bay-view swimming pool flowing indoors to outdoors is central to The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino. Treatments will focus on the Group’s traditional Far East rituals but incorporate plants from Greece.
Tailor-made fitness programmes will include yoga, nutrition advice, tennis coaching and intelligent movement.
Active guests will be able to enjoy tennis, biking, hiking, yachting and a watersports hub on site at the Mandarin Oriental while an 18-hole designer golf course surrounds the resort, and three further courses are available across Costa Navarino.
Additionally, the nearby open-air marketplace, Navarino Agora, opening on the waterfront in April, will offer shopping, street food, an open-air cinema and an event programme showcasing local culture and traditions.
