Emerald Zanzibar Resort & Spa opened its doors on 1 December, becoming The Emerald Collection’s first property beyond the Maldives.
Located on the north-east coast of the island in the Muyuni area, the all-suite resort is situated between the coastline and tropical jungle, directly in front of Mnemba island.
It is surrounded by 10-hectares of land sloping down towards the sea and an oval reef, which has been declared as a precious marine conservation area.
The property is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, and the group’s only hotel in Zanzibar.
There are 250 suites across seven different categories, and like all resorts in The Emerald Collection, the resort will offer the brand’s Deluxe All-Inclusive Formula in all suites. Guests will enjoy a la carte dining; luxury international wines, beers and spirits; access to unlimited non-motorised watersports and the diving centre; the Emerald Spa with Thai and Balinese treatments; and Dolphin Kids’ Club.
The resort is home to four international restaurants, four bars, and a gelateria. Dining options include the resort’s main all-day restaurant, Aqua, which offers international cuisine, while the Beach Club serves lunch on the sand overlooking the Indian Ocean. Carnivorous offers South American fare, and classic Asian dishes and live Teppanyaki cooking are available at Le Asiatique and Teppanyaki Grill.
Aldo Scarapicchia, partner and managing director of The Emerald Collection said: “We are thrilled by the arrival of Emerald Zanzibar Resort & Spa. This is an essential project for The Emerald Collection, in which we have invested tens of millions of euros to build a new resort in line with the standards of excellence of the brand. The property offers only suites, and is the ideal starting point for guests looking to discover an incredible natural coral reef, just as beautiful as that of the Maldives, and the natural park on Mnemba Island."
The five-star resort is the first in the collection on the African continent and joins Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa, which opened in 2019 and Emerald Faarufushi Resort & Spa, which launched this October.
