Another week, another run of luxury hotels with news we feel is worth sharing. As usual, it’s a star-studded selection.

We first check out a Hong Kong hotel that’s undergone a major makeover, before nipping down to Australia to check out a refurbished Sofitel property. Our continent hopscotch heats up with a visit to Anantara’s new Bali resort and Alma’s latest hotel in Central America, before finally winding down with a stop – and a nap – in a stunning Munich property.

We hope this roundup will give you the inspiration you need to make that special booking for your client – or maybe even yourself.

Ovolo Southside
The Lennon Suite at Southside by Ovolo has been inspired by rock legend John Lennon

1. Southside by Ovolo, Hong Kong

Ovolo Southside has undergone a massive transformation, as part of this Design Hotels member’s mission to elevate the experience in Hong-Kong’s first warehouse-converted hotel.

Rebranded as Southside by Ovolo, the property will offer a range of new accommodation options, including two expansive ‘Rock Star Suites’ named the Lennon and Rhapsody.

Inspired by John Lennon and Freddie Mercury, these eclectic spaces include a built-in bar, music-themed artworks and breathtaking views of the South Island’s skyline and beaches. B.Duck-themed rooms with tents have also been introduced, offering a playful option that’s perfect for families (or fans of the beaky character; trust us, this is big in Asia).

For dining, guests can head to the hotel’s new restaurant, Flat Iron Deluxe, where they’ll find premium steaks, club sandwiches, weekend brunches and a dedicated kids’ menu. The public spaces have also been reimagined, with the reception moved to the original third floor and a bar added to the lounge.

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth
Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has redesigned its 436 rooms and suites

2. Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, Sydney

Sofitel Sydney Wentworth will re-open this October following an extensive refurbishment – and we’re already booking our tickets Down Under.

The landmark property has upgraded its 436 guest rooms and suites as part of the $60 million-renovation, which also includes a redesigned lobby and a health studio with a fully-equipped gym. Guests can try flame-cooked Australian seafood at its new Tilda restaurant, while Delta Rue will serve up French Vietnamese cuisine in an elegant setting. For drinks, nab a table at the Wentworth Bar, a rooftop terrace buzzing with refreshing cocktails and DJ beats.

Anantara Bali
Anantara Ubud Bali's 85 suites and villas are nestled in tropical rainforest

3. Anantara Ubud Bali Resort, Bali

Anantara Ubud Bali Resort is set to open next month, marking the second addition to the luxury hotel brand’s Indonesian portfolio.

Situated in Banjar Puhu, the property will have 50 suites and 35 villas – some have private pools, but all are surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, while private butlers are at hand to cater to guests’ every need.

International dishes are served at Amerta, the hotel’s signature restaurant, while breakfast and lunch menus inspired by local cuisine can be found at the more casual Kirana. For midday bites, sample the afternoon tea with views of Mount Agung in the Lobby Lounge, and suggest a nightcap at Sulang, the al-fresco bar next to the adults-only pool.

4. Hyde London City

Hyde London City has officially opened its doors, marking the Hyde brand’s UK debut and sixth overall property. Situated in a 19th-century building in Farringdon, the chic hotel offers 111 guest rooms and suites inspired by the Victorian era.

The hotel’s Turkish restaurant, Leydi, serves Istanbul cuisine in a sleek setting, while Black Lacquer, the underground cocktail bar, is the perfect place for a cheeky nightcap. It will also soon introduce its 24/7 fitness suite, which will include Technogym equipment and personal training services.

5. Koenigshof, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Munich

If high-end clients need to know where to stay when heading to Munich’s Christmas markets, we’ve got just the ticket. A restored manor on Stachus Square, Koenigschof, A Luxury Collection marks the brand's debut in Germany and at just 500m from the city centre, it's perfectly placed for a festive shopping trip.

Guests can expect 106 artfully decorated rooms and suites, including a 250 sqm presidential suite which holds the title of the largest hotel suite in the city and boasts its own private spa. Other highlights are the property’s state-of-the-art gym and breathtaking atrium, along with its rooftop terrace overlooking the Bavarian Alps and the impressive library of its stylish Gold Lounge.

Dining options include the hotel’s signature restaurant Greta Oto Munich, which offers Latin American cuisine, and The Green, an airy lounge serving local delicacies such as the Koenigshof tea and cake.
