Mandarin Oriental, Porto Cervo will open in mid-2026 in the north-east of the island in the heart of the popular and high-end resort of Costa Smeralda, marking the hospitality group’s fourth venture in Italy. The 83-key property will feature five restaurants and bars, a Spa at Mandarin Oriental, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and indoor and outdoor pools. It will also offer the Beach Club on the Porto Paglia beach.

Francesco Cefalu, chief development officer of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, said: “Costa Smeralda’s unique allure, combined with the expertise of [partner and Italian real estate group] Gruppo Statuto, promises to create an extraordinary retreat. We look forward to delivering Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service and refined luxury to this captivating corner of Italy."

The announcement comes hot on the heels of a flurry of openings and developments for the Italian island. Rocco Forte Hotels announced it will manage a remodelled resort at Porto Cervo, set to open next year. The 64-key property will be located on Liscia di Vacca beach in Costa Smeralda, with interiors by renowned designer Patricia Urquiola.

The exclusive resort will also welcome two hotels from global luxury conglomerate LVMH Hospitality. Its Belmond brand will manage the Hotel Romazzino, which will open for the 2024 season as Romazzino, A Belmond Hotel, Costa Smeralda, while the Hotel Pitrizza will be managed by sister brand Cheval Blanc. The hotel will continue to operate under its current name until 2026, when it will be rebranded as Cheval Blanc Pitrizza, Costa Smeralda, following the completion of a renovation.

In addition, last summer the north-east coast welcomed the 76-key 7Pines Resort Sardinia.
