Italian hospitality brand The Romeo Collection will open its second property Romeo Roma in October, marking one of the last projects designed by late world-renowned Iraqi-British architect, Zaha Hadid.
The 74-key Romeo Rome is located just steps away from Piazza del Popolo in Rome’s city centre, and is housed in a historic palazzo dating back to the late 16th century.
President and chief executive Alfredo Romeo said: “The basis of the Romeo Collection is built on creating spaces that masterfully integrate worldly art collections, contemporary design and breath-taking architecture, so once we came upon the noble Serroberti-Capponi family’s former 16th-century palazzo, we knew this was the perfect space to house the collection’s next project.”
Romeo said the palazzo and the city of Rome itself “became the perfect canvas for Zaha Hadid to create a unique intersection of the past and present.” Hadid died in 2016 but her trademark blend of history and contemporary design can be seen throughout the property. Five of the suites will feature ancient restored frescos, complemented by Hadid’s contemporary architecture.
Romeo Roma will feature gourmet restaurant Il Ristorante, overseen by chef Alain Ducasse, who was the first chef to own three restaurants with three Michelin stars each, and is one of just two chefs in the world to be awarded more than 20 stars in total. The property will also feature Napoletano, a bistro and bar offering Mediterranean-inspired cuisine.
The hotel will offer an open-air courtyard with indoor and outdoor pools, a rooftop lounge and bar, an international art collection and a wellness centre by Sisley Paris.
The Romeo Collection launched Romeo Napoli in 2008 and plans to open Romeo Massa Lubrense in 2024.
