From a sandcastle replica of Buckingham Palace to King Charles-themed agency windows, companies across the travel industry have been gearing up to mark the royal coronation this weekend.
Speaking to TTG ahead of the occasion on Saturday (6 May), James Beagrie, owner of Petersfield’s Meon Valley Travel, said the agency has installed a photo of the King in its shop window.
"We’re open for business, we’ve got all the displays in the office and pictures of King Charles III in our topical window, which we have turned into a royal window," he said.
"There’s a high-street party in Petersfield tomorrow, so we’re open and we are making sure that we’re available to anybody who wants to pop into the travel agency when they’re coming into town."
Despite the celebrations, Beagrie doubts footfall to the agency will increase as a result of the festivities.
"But I do think the street party will bring people into town for the celebrations, and on that basis, I think it’s our responsibility to be there with our doors wide open, celebrating with prosecco for whoever might want to come in," he continued.
Elsewhere, owner of Woodbridge-based Deben Travel Lee Hunt said the agency will "not be going over the top" to mark the event.
"We have given everyone an additional day off, so the shop is going to be closed tomorrow," he said.
"We’re not back until Tuesday just because it’s important for everyone to be able to watch the coronation if they choose to."
And Kelly Cheesman, co-director and co-founder of 2023’s TTG Top 50 winning agency Beverly Travel, predicts the store will be "very busy", owing to the additional members of the public taking to the high street.
"We’re not going to decorate hugely, just some bunting and cakes, chocolates and doughnuts, and we’ve got sweet food and nice things for customers as well as some wine and prosecco," she continued.
"We’re in a shopping precinct and we’re fully expecting we will be busy."
Elsewhere, a mini replica of Buckingham Palace made entirely out of sand, commissioned by easyJet Holidays, has been unveiled at West Wittering beach.
Emirates is marking the historic moment by recreating the "official coronation quiche" for passengers onboard and in Emirates lounges.
The coronation is expected to drive tourism figures to a double-digit increase, most notably from North American arrivals, according to Euromonitor International.
And research by Key Data found London will receive a tourism boost worth more than £205 million during the coronation fortnight, helped by the arrival of 30,595 more overseas visitors than last year.
The cruise industry has also taken to celebrating the occasion, with Saga’s Spirit of Discovery, whose godmother is Camilla, Queen Consort, hosting a range of special coronation celebrations as it departs Portsmouth on Saturday (6 May) on a 15-night cruise of Spain and the Balearics.
Proceedings will kick off in the early hours with coverage of the event screened in the ship’s Playhouse Theatre while guests are welcomed onboard with British sparkling wine.
P&O Cruises announced a range of offers including up to £100 off per person based on a balcony cabin, £70 off per person on sea view cabins and £50 off per person on inside cabins.
Cunard, meanwhile, will host a range of coronation-themed activities across all three of its vessels, including street parties in the Grand Lobby to themed musical performances, films and quizzes.
The line has also created an exclusive coronation dinner menu for the evening of 6 May, inspired by King Charles’ love of farming, agriculture, game and organic principles.
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines is marking the event by offering additional savings of up to £100 per person on a selection of British Isles sailings this summer.
And MSC Cruises will host guests onboard Virtuosa at a coronation gala dinner, offer several new, limited-edition menu items, create a giant "crown cake", deck the vessel out in bunting, Union Jacks and other decor and offer a refreshed entertainment programme.
