Abercrombie & Kent will offer its first North Pole expedition cruise next year.
The luxury specialist had exclusively chartered Ponant icebreaker, Le Commandant Charcot, for the voyage. The cruise over 10-27 July 2024 will be led by A&K’s expedition team and will head to the planet’s northernmost point.
A&K vice-president product development and operations, Stefanie Schmudde, said interest in expedition cruising was continuing to grow. "We are continuously looking for new routes and destinations that deliver the thrill of discovery our guests are looking for," said Schmudde.
"In 2023, we expanded to all seven continents with Africa, and for 2024, we’re thrilled to add the North Pole to our portfolio. We have taken what not too long ago was a long, arduous expedition, and transformed it into a luxury adventure."
A&K said the voyage would follow in the footsteps of Arctic explorers like Frederick Cook and Roald Amundsen, overnighting at the geographic North Pole.
It will also feature expert-led lectures, opportunities to participate in scientific research projects and spend time in the ship’s lab and on its bridge, stargaze, learn seamanship skills and more about Polar survival.
The expedition will be limited to 80% of ship capacity, which means in Polar regions, capacity is capped at 199 guests. The 17-night trip leads in from £42,760pp, excluding flights.
Other new expedition cruises in 2024 include Cruising Greece, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, and South Pacific Cruise: Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
