Luxury specialist Avventura will establish a high street presence with the acquisition of Uttoxeter-based agency Journeys a la Carte.
The transaction was completed over the Christmas period for an undisclosed sum, with the agency – founded by Margaret May in 1995 – now operating under the group’s ownership.
Richard Hadfield, Avventura Travels chief executive, said the group had been looking to acquire a retail operation "for some time".
"[Journeys a la Carte] is a perfect strategic fit in terms of its customer profile and staff capability with our existing business operations," he added.
"We are delighted Margaret May has agreed to sell the business to us and that she will continue to be available to us with her local knowledge and expertise in order for us to achieve a seamless ownership transition."
May, who now plans to retire, said the agency has been a huge part of her life for more 25 years, adding she was "enormously proud" of its success.
"Success due to the amazing, incredible Journeys team, our wonderful clients, [and] the tour operators we work with, along with Aito and the TTA who have always been there to help steer the way," she continued.
A new holding company – Avventura Group – has been established and will own 100% of luxury operator Avventura Travels and Journeys a la Carte, as well as any other businesses acquired by the group in the future.
Under the new ownership structure, the team at Journeys a la Carte will be retained and will continue to work with its current suppliers and business partners while also acting as a distribution partner for Avventura product.
