An investigation has been launched after the deaths of three guests staying at Sandals Emerald Bay resort in the Bahamas, the company has confirmed.
According to reports in the national press, two men and a woman – thought to be American nationals – were found unresponsive at the resort on Friday (6 May). A fourth person is believed to have been airlifted to hospital.
Royal Bahamas Police confirmed three deceased guests had been found in two villas at the resort in Great Exuma with "no signs of trauma" and all were pronounced dead by a local doctor.
Bahamas’ acting prime minister Chester Cooper said the cause of deaths was "still unknown", adding that "foul play is not suspected" and police are currently awaiting the results of an autopsy report.
A spokesperson for Sandals Resorts International said: "Nothing is more important to Sandals Resorts than the safety of our guests. It is with deep sadness that we can confirm the passing of three guests at Emerald Bay Resort on May 6, 2022.
"A health emergency was initially reported and following our protocols we immediately alerted emergency medical professionals and relevant local authorities to provide support and investigate the situation.
"We are actively working to support both the investigation as well as the guests’ families in every way possible during this difficult time. Out of respect for the privacy of our guests, we cannot disclose further information at this time."
