Barrhead Travel plans to open a second store in Northern Ireland – and its 90th in the UK – before the end of 2024.
The Scottish-based agency opened its first Northern Irish branch in Belfast in 2017 and in 2022 it launched in a homeworking division in the country to meet growing customer demand.
The exact location of the second Barrhead store in Northern Ireland “will be led by its people”, said the agency. A recruitment drive to hire experienced agents to work in the shop is under way.
Barrhead Travel president Jacqueline Dobson stressed the need to find “the right people for our next location” in Northern Ireland.
She added she wanted agents who are “extremely passionate about travel and customer service” and encouraged applicants to contact the agency about vacancies.
“It’s the local people who know the market better than anyone else, which is why we plan on recruiting first and then working with the team to secure the perfect unit on the right high street,” Dobson explained.
Barrhead is recruiting five full-time staff to work in the new Northern Irish store which will be its 90th in the UK.
“We see great opportunities for an agent like Barrhead Travel to grow the high street market [in Northern Ireland],” Dobson added.
“Northern Irish holidaymakers are very enthusiastic about travel agents and the support we have received from our existing communities over the last seven years has been wonderful.
“There are a few specific locations we have in mind – but we’re open to the right opportunity.”
