British Airways’ new three-times-weekly Gatwick-Accra service took off at the weekend, which BA claims will double the number of seats available between the UK and Ghana.
BA will operate the route three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with a fourth weekly service due to be added from April 2024. The new Accra service from Gatwick is in addition to a daily Airbus A350 service from Heathrow.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ director of network and alliances, confirmed BA would offer 55% more capacity between Accra and London next summer compared with 2019.
“With 11 direct flights, across two London gateways, we’re pleased to offer our Ghanaian customers a greater choice of products and prices,” said Chernoff.
“We are always looking at routes and regions where there is potential for growth, and Accra is one of those routes and Africa is one of those regions.”
The first flight from Gatwick to Accra landed at Kotoka International Airport at 6.26pm on Sunday (29 October).
