The Foreign Office has advised against all but essential travel to a Ugandan national park after three fatalities – including a British tourist – were reported on Tuesday (17 October).
Uganda’s police said the trio were killed and their vehicle burned in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The other fatalities were a South African holidaymaker and a Ugandan guide.
Police in Uganda suggested suspected Islamist group Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) was behind the attack. It is understood the attackers remain at large.
The Foreign Office issued an advisory on Wednesday (18 October), warning: “The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
“If you are currently in the park, you should follow the advice of local security authorities. If you are able to do so safely, you should consider leaving the area.”
Fred Enanga, a police spokesperson, wrote on Twitter/X: “We have registered a cowardly terrorist attack on two foreign tourists and a Ugandan in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
“The three were killed, and their safari vehicle burnt. Our joint forces responded immediately upon receiving the information and are aggressively pursuing the suspected ADF rebels. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims.”
Located in a remote area near the DRC border, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda’s most popular conservation areas.
